How To Vote
We want you to get out and vote! Here is how:
Voter Eligibility
The Local Authorities Election Act (s. 47 LAEA) outlines that a person is eligible to vote in a Municipal Election if the person:
- is at least 18 years old,
- is a Canadian citizen, and
- resides in Alberta and the person's place of residence is located in the local jurisdiction on election day
How to Vote
Electors may vote in person in either advance polls or on election day, or you can request a special ballot to vote by mail.
Vote in Person
Election Day
The 2025 Municipal Election allows you to vote from any voting station within the city. You do not have to go to a designated voting station.
All voting stations are fully accessible and will be open from 10 AM to 8 PM on the day of the election, October 20. Locations are:
1. Big Marble Go Centre- 2000 Division Ave N
2. St. Patrick's Catholic Church- 238 2 Ave NE
3. Veiner Centre- 225 Woodman Ave SE
4. Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre- 401 1 Street SE
5. Wyndham Garden Medicine Hat- 954 7 Street SW
6. Medicine Hat College- 299 College Drive SE
7. Kinplex Arena- 2055 21 Ave SE
8. Victory Lutheran Church- 2793 Southview Dr SE
9. Holy Family Catholic Church- 1451 Strachan Rd SE
10. Medicine Hat Lodge- 1051 Ross Glen Dr SE

Advance Polls
Extra assistance is available at advance voting stations for any person with physical disabilities.
Locations and times for Advance Polls are as follows:
Hockey Hounds Recreational Centre
39 10 Street NE, Medicine Hat, Alberta
- Saturday, October 4 from 9 AM to 3 PM
- October 14 to 18 from 10 AM to 8 PM
Holy Family Parish
1251 Strachan Road SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta
- Saturday, October 4 from 9 AM to 3 PM
- October 14 to 18 from 10 AM to 8 PM
If you cannot vote in person:
You can request a special ballot from the Elections Office. Requests for special ballots are being accepted now, and all special ballot requests must be received by the Elections Office before 4 PM on Friday, October 3.
Once you have completed your special ballot, it must be returned to the Elections Office before 5 PM on Friday, October 17 to be counted.
You can request a special ballot in any of the following ways:
- Filling out the PDF Form and emailing it to [email protected]
- Calling the Elections Office at 403-529-8221. An election official will fill the form with the information you provide.
- In person at the Elections Office, located on the third floor of City Hall at 580 1st Street SE, Medicine Hat, AB, T1A 8E6
You will have the choice to have your special ballot package sent by regular mail to a mailing address or to pick it up at City Hall during regular office hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM starting on Tuesday, September 23 at 2 PM.
Special Ballots can be returned to the Elections Office at City Hall or mailed at your cost, however all ballots MUST be received at the Elections Office before 5 PM on Friday, October 17 to be counted. Late submissions will not be accepted.
